Maciej Franta — Polish architect, born in 1983 in Chorzów. Awarded the title of the Architect of the Year 2021 in the competition organized by The Architecture Community in 2022 and included in the list of 40 most promising young architects in the world in the plebiscite 40 under 40 2021 organized by The European Center.

Author of, inter alia, Villa Reden, one of the most awarded architectural projects in 2021. The building has won such awards as: Eurasian Prize 2021, DNA Paris Design Awards 2021, World Design Awards 2021, Architecture Masterprize 2021, Iconic Awards 2021, European Property Awards 2021, Urban Design & Architecture Design Awards 2022 and more.

Maciej Franta graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Krakow University of Technology in 2008, and then also doctoral studies there. He also studied at the Faculty of Architecture at Knoxville University in Tennessee. In 2007, he completed an internship at the Gensler architectural studio in New York. Since 2010, he has been running the Franta Architects Group studio in Katowice, which brings together 24 architects and deals with the design of architecture and urban planning of housing estates, public and service buildings. Andrey Bokov Doctor of Architecture, Vice-president of International Academy of architecture (IAA), president of the Eurasian branch of IAA (MAAM), Member of the European Society of Culture.

Academician Andrey Bokov is the author of more than a hundred city-planning and architectural projects. Beatrice Galilee is a London-born curator, writer and cultural advisor who is internationally recognized for her expertise in global contemporary architecture and design. She is the author of Radical Architecture of the Future, published by Phaidon in 2021, and between 2014-2019 served as the first curator of contemporary architecture and design at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Currently living in New York, Ms Galilee is co-founder and executive director of The World Around, a new platform for contemporary design and architecture that is in residence at the Guggenheim Museum. Beatrice is a visiting associate professor at Pratt Institute where she lectures on curating.

Beatrice served as chief curator of the 2013 Lisbon Architecture Triennale; co-curator of 2011 Gwangju Design Biennale, co-curator of 2009 Shenzhen Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism. Between 2010-2012 she launched and co-directed The Gopher Hole, an experimental exhibition and project space in London.

Simone Micheli founded the Architecture Studio in 1990 and in 2003 he created the architecture company Simone Micheli Architectural Hero together with Roberta Colla. The society is based in Florence, Milan, Puntaldìa, Dubai, Rabat and Busan. His professional activity ranges from master plans and architecture to interior, from design to visual, through graphics, communication and event organization. Donald MacDonald, owner and Principal of Donald MacDonald Architects, LLP is an award-winning architect with over 40 years of architecture experience. Donald has expertise in many facets of bridge design, including conceptual planning, architectural enhancements, transportation operations, public participation, landscaping, and environmental studies. Jacques Ferrier is an architect and urban planner. He studied architecture at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture in Paris-Belleville and civil engineering at École Centrale in Paris. In 1993, he created his own practice in Paris and has worked in France and internationally since then. His work follows a clear philosophy and aims to create an architecture and an urban environment for a creative and sustainable society.
His portfolio includes cultural and leisure facilities (amongst others the French Pavilion for the Shanghai World Expo 2010 and the Water Park Aqualagon near Paris), showcase buildings (such as the Headquarters for Champagne Piper & Charles Heidsieck in Reims, the Headquarters of Hachette Livre in Paris and the Airbus Delivery Center in Toulouse), public buildings (notably the Collège de France in Paris, the Métropole Rouen Normandie headquarters and the International French School of Beijing). Brinda Somaya is an architect and urban conservationist. Upon completion of her Bachelor of Architecture from Mumbai University and Master of Arts from Smith College in Northampton, MA, USA, she started her firm Somaya and Kalappa Consultants (SNK) in 1978 in Mumbai, India. In May 2012 she was conferred an Honorary Doctorate from her alma mater, Smith College. In 2014 she was awarded the Indian Institute of Architects – Baburao Mhatre Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement. From 2016-2021 she was the Chairperson of the Board of Governors, School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, an Institute of National Importance. In 2017 she joined the
Board of the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction, Zurich, Switzerland and was also elected as the A.D. White Professor-at-Large by Cornell University, U.S.A.
Over four decades she has merged architecture, conservation and social equity in projects ranging from institutional campuses, rehabilitation of an earthquake-torn village to restoration of an 18th century Cathedral, showing that progress and history need not be at odds. Her belief that ‘The Architect’s role is that of guardian – hers is the conscience of the built and un-built environment’, underlines her work that encompasses large corporate, industrial and institutional campuses and extends to public spaces, some of which she has rebuilt, and others reinvented as pavements, parks and plazas.

Professor Rafiq Azam is an internationally acclaimed architect from Bangladesh who has been practicing and developing his remarkable style of green architecture for the last 30 years. His architecture is a harmonious fusion of tradition, nature, and mysticism, including tiny elements of nature to adorn his buildings with poetic beauty. A “House” to him is not just an abode for humans, but a nest for butterflies and birds as well. Rafiq’s mastery of light, shadow, water, and air is influenced by such mysticisms as cited by Lalon and Tagore. His green architecture is not a mere mechanism of energy saving – rather it is an inspiring process of energy gaining.

Rafiq Azam was born on December 29, 1963, in Dhaka, Bangladesh and lived with his family in Lalbagh for most of his youth.  In 1986, he finished designing the Azam Residence, a single-family residence which he held dear to his heart as it was made to house his own family following the death of his father. The residence finished construction in 1988. Rafiq Azam then went on to graduate from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1989 and started his architectural practice, “SHATOTTO architecture for green living”, in May 1995.

In 2004, Rafiq Azam participated in the “Glenn Murcutt Master Class”, and in 2008 was selected as one of the ten emerging designers of the world by “Urban Land” in the USA.

As a visiting faculty, Rafiq taught at notable institutions such as the National University of Singapore, NED Karachi, Jadavpur University India, BRAC University, University of Asia Pacific, North South University Dhaka, and Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Dhaka, among others.

Some of his major projects include the SA Residence, a single family residence constructed in 2010; The SP Setia Headquarters, an international project completed in Malaysia in 2014; The Mayor Mohammad Hanif Jame Mosque, a contemporary mosque built adjacent to the Azimpur Graveyard in Old Dhaka in 2018; And Rasulbagh Children’s Park, a revitalization project of an old misused park completed in 2021 as part of the Jol Shobuje Dhaka initiative. ^[2]

Jeremy was an International Juror for the Indian Institute of Architects National Awards in 2019, has judged the NZIA New Zealand Architecture Awards, and at World Architecture Festivals in Singapore, Berlin, and Amsterdam, and has been invited to judge in Lisbon 2022. He also judged the 2020,2021 WAF China Awards, the 2021 Muse Awards out of New York, the Italian 2020-2022 A’Design International Design Awards. He is also a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, and an International Advisor to the Saveetha College of Architecture and Design in Chennai, India. Jeremy is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Auckland where he teaches an iterative design studio at

Bernard Khoury was born in Beirut in 1968. He studied architecture at the Rhode Island school of Design (BFA 1990 / B.Arch. 1991) and received a Masters in Architectural Studies from Harvard University (M.Arch. 1993). In 2001, he was awarded, by the municipality of Rome, the honorable mention of the Borromini Prize given to architects under forty years of age. In 2004, he was awarded the Architecture + Award. Astrid Klein was born in Italy, attended the European School, and went to the Beaux-Arts and Arts Décoratifs in France. After graduating from the Royal College of Art in London, she moved to Japan, where she has lived and worked since 1988.

Astrid was drawn to Japan by the simplicity of Japanese design, its attention to detail and freedom from traditional constraints. In Tokyo she began working for Toyo Ito and in 1991 she co-founded Klein Dytham architecture with Mark Dytham.

Today, Klein Dytham architecture (KDa) is a multi-disciplinary design practice known for architecture, interiors, public spaces and installations. Totan Kuzembaev was born in the Chimkent region of Kazakhstan. He received his architectural education in Moscow. From 2014 to 2015 he was the author of the Design column in the Italian newspaper “La Repubblica”. From January 1st, 2020, Doriana Fuksas was awarded the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur Française.

Todd Saunders (1969) is one of the most important contemporary Canadian architects working internationally. His architecture, simple yet powerful, incorporates elements of his country’s architectural identity – including the use of wood and carefully picked Modernist influences – bringing it at the same time into the 21st century with excellent execution, carefully chosen materials and a hands-on approach.

Saunders, who has lived and worked in Bergen, Norway for the past 25 years, has successfully executed work in both Canada, Norway, USA, Sweden, and Finland, creating architecture with a strong sense of northern identity, an individual approach that is informed by the strength of natural landscape.

Saunders studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax and McGill University in Montreal.  In 2016 Saunders was given an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.  He continues to combine teaching with practice.  He has lectured in over 20 countries.  He has been a visiting professor at Cornell University in New York.  He will be a guest professor at Yale University during the fall of 2021.

Saunders’ projects have been presented in magazines and newspapers in over 40 countries, and are featured in over 100 books from 15 different countries.

In December 2012, the Swiss Publishing House Birkhäuser published a book on the architecture of Todd Saunders, written by Jonathan Bell and Ellie Stathaki, the editors of Wallpaper Magazine in London.

In the fall of 2021, the British publisher Thames & Hudson is publishing a new book on selected residential projects by Todd Saunders, written by Dominic Bradbury, freelance writer for The Financial Times, The Times and several other magazines and newspapers internationally .

In 2020 Todd Saunders was inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.  Saunders was ranked one of Norway’s 10 best architects by the magazine Bo Bedre in 2009, and was placed number 52 among the 100 best architects in the world by the German magazine BauNetz in 2012. Saunders was also ranked among the five top architects in the world under 50 by the Huffington Post in 2011.

His most renowned project, The Fogo Island Inn on Fogo Island, Canada, har won several awards.  In 2020, the Fogo Island Inn’s dining hall, The Fogo Island Shed, won both the World Architecture News Award and the Gray Award.

Worth mentioning is the Travel + Leisure Global Vision Award – Culture in 2013, Architizer A+ Awards Jury Winner in 2016, and being ranked the #1 hotel in Canada and #3 hotel in the world 2020 by Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards.

In 2011, the project Fogo Island Studios in Canada won the HISE Award for Sustainable Excellence as well as the AZ Award for Best Commercial Project, and the Solberg Tower and Park was awarded the Arnstein Arneberg Award for Outstanding Architecture.

In October 2006, the Norwegian Association of Architects nominated the Aurland Lookout for the Mies van der Rohe Prize; The European Union prize for contemporary architecture.  In 2006, this project won the Norwegian Construction Prize, was given an honourable mention at the AR Awards for Emerging Architects in London, and was nominated for Wallpaper magazine’s ʻBest Public Projectʼ in 2007.

In the fall of 2005 Saunders was a part of an exhibition entitled 20 under 40: Young Norwegian Architecture hosted by the Norwegian Architecture Association.

Saunders is now focusing on creating community based architecture and art together with philanthropist in order to instigate change.  The studio is in the process of completing a visitor centre in Katahdin National park together with The Elliotsville Foundation.  Previous projects with philanthropists have included all the Fogo Island project with the Shorefast Foundation and the Illusuak Cultural Centre in Labrador with the Nunatsiavut.  What matters for Saunders now is to create architecture and art that gives back to communities.

Erick van Egeraat
During his over 40 years of successful practice, Erick van Egeraat (Amsterdam, 1956) has built a highly diverse portfolio containing ambitious and high-profile projects in The Netherlands, Europe, and the Russian Federation. He has led the realization of over 166 projects in more than 10 countries ranging from buildings for public and commercial use to luxury and social housing projects, projects for mixed-use and master plans for cities, and even entire regions. Each of these projects represents his very personal and expressive vision on architecture and urban development. Both Erick van Egeraat and his work have been the recipients of numerous international awards and citations such as the RIBA Award 2007 for the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art and the ‘Best Animated Architecture’ award at the 2014 Media Architecture Biennale for the Waste to Energy Plant in Roskilde, Denmark.

Erick van Egeraat graduated from Delft University of Technology, Department of Architecture, with honourable mention in 1984 and was the co-founder of Mecanoo – the renowned avant-garde architects. In 1995 he established (EEA) Erick van Egeraat associated architects with offices in Rotterdam, Moscow, Budapest, London, and Prague. In order to better meet the demands of a portfolio as diverse as his, Erick van Egeraat successfully restructured his company in 2009 into what is now (design) Erick van Egeraat.

Asif Khan MBE

Asif Khan founded his architecture office in 2007 to design buildings that support new ways of thinking about the world and ourselves. He works internationally on a wide range of projects from cultural buildings and landscapes to experimental structures and has taught at the Royal College of Art and Musashino Art University.

Born in London to parents from Tanzanian and Pakistani backgrounds, he studied at the Architectural Association and Bartlett School of Architecture. His current portfolio of projects includes the New Museum of London, which is the largest cultural project in Europe, the carbon-fibre Entry Portals at Dubai Expo 2020, and over 6km of Expo 2020 Public Realm design. Also currently under construction are a Museum of Manuscripts in Sharjah and the Tselinny Centre of Contemporary Culture in Almaty which will open in 2022.  Well known works include the UK Pavilion at Astana Expo in 2017 in collaboration with Musician Brian Eno and the Hyundai Pavilion at PyeongChang Winter Olympics in 2018.

A finalist in the competition for the Helsinki Guggenheim Art Museum, Asif was awarded Architect of the Year in 2018 by the German Design Council and received an MBE for services to Architecture in 2017.  Asif is currently Deputy Chairman of the board of the Design Museum in London.

Tetsuya Matsumoto is the founder and Head Architect Designer at KTX archiLAB based in Japan, and a Lecturer of a space design course at Osaka University of Art. Cristos Passas, Design Director at Zaha Hadid Architects, BArch (Hons), AA Grad.Des.ip, RIBA, ARB, ETEK.

Cristos joined Zaha Hadid Architects as a Senior Designer in February 1998 and as beena key ember in the development of the overall artistic evolution of the Studio, its business development, the office culture and leader of a wide range of build and ubuilt projects and competitions within the practice.

Education & Teaching

Christos received his architecture degree with Honours as a Fulbright Scholar at Pratt Institute’s School of Architecture in Brooklyn, New York in 1995. He was registered as an architect at Technical Chamber Cyprus 1996, a member of the Architects Registration Board in the UK since 2000, and a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects since 2011. He received his Graduate Design Diploma in 1998 in Advanced Architectural Design at the Architectural Association, London.

Christos taught Parametric Design and Urbanism at the Architectural Association with Patrik Schumacher in London between 2007 and 2010, working on the exploration of digital and parametric techniques for the formation of large urban settlements.

He subsequently went on to serve as Guest DAAD Professor in the Dessau Institute of Architecture (HA) at Bauhaus, Dessau, from 2008 to 2012 working on the implementation of digital design strategies for large scale objects with complex geometry and character, exploring uniqueness, diversity and complexity. He regularly participates in design juries at universities across the UK and Europe, and is a frequent guest lecturer in parametric design, design thinking and the role of architecture. He is currently Honorary Professor at the University of Technology, College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Qingdao until 2022.

Projects

Christos has been involved in the initial stages of the design of many of the practice’s seminal projects such as the Rosenthal Centre for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati; the MAXXI: National Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome; and the Sheikh Zayed Bridge in Abu Dhabi. Christos has served as Design and Project Director for a large number of projects. Since his arrival at the company, he has worked closely with Zaha Hadid and is one of the practice’s Design Leaders.

He has delivered a broad spectrum of designs for various typologies such as for cultural institutions and Performance spaces, residential, interior design, commercial, innovative workspaces, mixed-use urban projects, urban regeneration, and masterplanning in a variety of scales in the US, Europe, China, Eastern Europe and Russia, North Africa and the Middle East.

For Formanfantasma, this crossflow of knowledge and experience taken from both their commercial contracts and their more autonomous projects has benefitted and informed the respective other. From September 2020 Trimarchi and Farresin have overseen the GEO–Design department at Design Academy in Eindhoven to further explorations into the social, economic, territorial and geopolitical forces shaping design today.

Cristos Passas, Design Director at Zaha Hadid Architects, BArch (Hons), AA Grad.Des.ip, RIBA, ARB, ETEK.

Cristos joined Zaha Hadid Architects as a Senior Designer in February 1998 and as beena key ember in the development of the overall artistic evolution of the Studio, its business development, the office culture and leader of a wide range of build and ubuilt projects and competitions within the practice.

Education & Teaching

Christos received his architecture degree with Honours as a Fulbright Scholar at Pratt Institute’s School of Architecture in Brooklyn, New York in 1995. He was registered as an architect at Technical Chamber Cyprus 1996, a member of the Architects Registration Board in the UK since 2000, and a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects since 2011. He received his Graduate Design Diploma in 1998 in Advanced Architectural Design at the Architectural Association, London.

Christos taught Parametric Design and Urbanism at the Architectural Association with Patrik Schumacher in London between 2007 and 2010, working on the exploration of digital and parametric techniques for the formation of large urban settlements.

He subsequently went on to serve as Guest DAAD Professor in the Dessau Institute of Architecture (HA) at Bauhaus, Dessau, from 2008 to 2012 working on the implementation of digital design strategies for large scale objects with complex geometry and character, exploring uniqueness, diversity and complexity. He regularly participates in design juries at universities across the UK and Europe, and is a frequent guest lecturer in parametric design, design thinking and the role of architecture. He is currently Honorary Professor at the University of Technology, College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Qingdao until 2022.

Projects

Christos has been involved in the initial stages of the design of many of the practice’s seminal projects such as the Rosenthal Centre for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati; the MAXXI: National Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome; and the Sheikh Zayed Bridge in Abu Dhabi. Christos has served as Design and Project Director for a large number of projects. Since his arrival at the company, he has worked closely with Zaha Hadid and is one of the practice’s Design Leaders.

He has delivered a broad spectrum of designs for various typologies such as for cultural institutions and Performance spaces, residential, interior design, commercial, innovative workspaces, mixed-use urban projects, urban regeneration, and masterplanning in a variety of scales in the US, Europe, China, Eastern Europe and Russia, North Africa and the Middle East.

More recently, he spearheaded the designs that deal with the future of workspace such as he Sberbank Technopark HQ (2016), the Kuzminki Masterplan as part of Moscow’s Residential Quarters regenetation project (2017), the Admiral Serebryakov Masterplan (2018), the Chongqing Smart Valley (2019), the Tushino Residential Development (2018), the Rublevo-Arkhangelskoye Smart City Masterplan (2019), the winning Sverdlovsk Philarmonique Hall in Yekaterinburg (2018), the winning Oppo HQ in Shenzhen (2019) in China, Sberbank’s Cultural and Business Center in Moscow (2019) as well as a variety of Smart City Masterplans in various reions on the world, predominantly researching the impact of digital techno-economies and Smart Systems on ecology and susainability.

He is both an architect and ecologist, known for his authentic innovative ecology-based signature eco-architecture and masterplans that have a distinctive verdant green aesthetic, that are beyond conventional accreditation. He trained at the Architectural Association School (UK). His doctorate is from Cambridge University on ecological architecture and planning. He has authored over 12 books on green architecture. Awards received include the Aga Khan Award, Malaysian Institute of Architects Gold Medal, Malaysian Government’s Merdeka Award. He holds the Plym Distinguished Professorship (Illinois University). The Guardian newspaper names him as, “..one of the 50 people who could save the planet..”

Rodolfo Machado was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1942 and is a citizen of the United States, where he has resided since 1968. Rodolfo received his Diploma in Architecture from the Universidad de Buenos Aires in 1967. During the academic year 1967-68, he studied urban design at the Centre de Recherche d’Urbanisme, in Paris, France and in 1971 received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of California at Berkeley where he continued doctoral studies in architectural theory until 1973. Rodolfo practiced architecture in San Francisco, California and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before associating with Jorge Silvetti in 1974 with whom he incorporated Machado Silvetti in 1985.

In addition to his architectural practice, Rodolfo has been a member of the Harvard University faculty since 1986, where he was Professor in Practice of Architecture and Urban Design at the Graduate School of Design from 1986 to 2010, chaired the Department of Urban Planning and Design from 2004 to 2009 and is currently Professor in Practice of Architecture and Urban Design, Emeritus. Rodolfo has conducted seminars, lectured and has been a visiting critic at many schools of architecture in this country and abroad. He has taught at Carnegie-Mellon University and at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he chaired the department of architecture from 1978 until 1986.

Most notably, Rodolfo has been Bishop Professor of Architecture at Yale University, Smith Professor of Architecture at Rice University, Jean Labatut Professor of Urbanism at Princeton University and Thomas Jefferson Professor in Architecture at the University of Virginia. In 1995, he curated an exhibition entitled “Monolithic Architecture” at the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh. Piero Lissoni is architect, art director and designer and is recognized as one of the masters of contemporary design.

For over thirty years, he has developed projects the world over in the fields of architecture, landscape and interior, as well as in product and graphic design. He is also art director for Alpi, B&B Italia, Boffi, Living Divani, Lema, Lualdi, Porro and Sanlorenzo.

Costas Voyatzis is the founder of Yatzer (2007), an international online magazine for architecture, design, travel and the arts, and Yatzerlab (2020), a creative studio working on the intersection of design and marketing. Born in Piraeus, Greece, in 1980, he dabbled academically in Meteorology at the Physics University of Athens before switching to studying Interior Design. After graduation, he worked for a number of Greece’s leading interior design magazines as a stylist and trend forecaster, developing relationships with many international designers and manufacturers, and garnering acclaim for his unique perspective on design excellence and innovation. In 2007, he launched Yatzer with a vision of creating a single, high quality source of design information. What started as a personal blog – its name a wordplay on his surname (Vo-Yatzer) – soon became one of the best online destinations, earning Costas four years later a spot among Architectural Digest’s 100 most influential people in the design industry. In 2020, fuelled by his creative mind and communication skills, he founded Yatzerlab, an Athens-based studio that focuses on design-based marketing and branding across digital and tangible applications. Costas has further honed his experience as Curator of the Art Shop at the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens and Jury member for the Editors’ Choice Award at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, as well as numerous creative projects and collaborations around the world.

Born in Aichi, Japan, Yosuke Hayano is a first class registered Architect in Japan. Being a principal partner in MAD, Yosuke oversees and supervises all design works at MAD. His extensive professional experience and strict attention to detail and standards enable him to lead project teams on concept design, design development, materials selection, construction methods, techniques and time management. Yosuke assures all stages of design meet and exceed MAD’s high standards as they are transformed from design concepts into built structures.

Yosuke received his Bachelor of Materials Engineering from Waseda University in Tokyo in 2000, Associate degree in Architecture at Waseda Art and Architecture School in 2001, and his post Master in Architecture at the Architectural Association of London in 2003. He was the winner of the 2006 Architecture League of New York Young Architects Award, 2011 Design for Asia award and 2011 Kumamoto Artpolis Award. He was a visiting lecturer at Waseda Art and Architecture School from 2008 till 2012 and at Tokyo University from 2010 till 2012.

Yosuke received his Bachelor of Materials Engineering from Waseda University in Tokyo in 2000, Associate degree in Architecture at Waseda Art and Architecture School in 2001, and his post Master in Architecture at the Architectural Association of London in 2003. He was the winner of the 2006 Architecture League of New York Young Architects Award, 2011 Design for Asia award and 2011 Kumamoto Artpolis Award. He was a visiting lecturer at Waseda Art and Architecture School from 2008 till 2012 and at Tokyo University from 2010 till 2012.

Piero Lissoni is architect, art director and designer and is recognized as one of the masters of contemporary design.

For over thirty years, he has developed projects the world over in the fields of architecture, landscape and interior, as well as in product and graphic design. He is also art director for Alpi, B&B Italia, Boffi, Living Divani, Lema, Lualdi, Porro and Sanlorenzo.

Some of the most important architecture and interior projects deserving mention include The Ritz-Carlton Residences in Miami Beach (2020), the Grand Park Hotel in Croatia (2019), the restyling of the historic Camparino bar in the Galleria of Milan (2019), The Middle House for the Swire Hotels Group in Shanghai (2018), The Oberoi Al Zorah Beach Resort Ajman in the UAE (2017), the 240-unit condominium Oceana Bal Harbour in Miami (2017), the Casa Fantini hotel on the shores of Lake Orta (2017), the Sanlorenzo yachts SX112 (2020), SX76 (2018) and SX88 (2017), the Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam (2012), the renovation of the historic Teatro Nazionale in Milan (2009) in addition to the corporate headquarters of Boffi, Cassina, Fantini, Glas Italia, Living Divani and the Sanlorenzo shipyards in La Spezia and Ameglia.

Maria Langarita is a Ph.D. in architecture and a teacher at ETSA in Madrid, co-founder of Langarita-Navarro.
She studied architecture from the University of Navarra (Universidad de Navarra). Today, Maria Langarita is a teacher and curator of architectural projects at ETSA in Madrid.
In 2005, together with Victor Navarro, they founded the Madrid architectural practice Langarita-Navarro. In 2013, their collaboration was awarded a special prize by the Mies van der Rohe Prize, as well as at the XII Spanish Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, the FAD 2012, the AR’D Award for Developing Architecture 2012 and the 2013 COAM Award.
In addition, the work of the Langarita-Navarro studio was awarded the Young Architect of the Year 2014 award and the AD Nuevos Valores 2013 award. Later on, their work appeared in various publications and were selected for the monograph of 2G magazine, as well as for showing at various events, including including the Venice Biennale in 2014 and 2008.

Alexey Kukovyakin, director and founder of Alkuta, honorary Architect of the Russian Federation, professor of the Moscow branch of the International Academy of Architecture (MAAM), member of the Union of Architects of Russia. Alexey Kukovyakin constantly monitors events in the world of architecture. He participated in the World Congress of Architects in Berlin (2002), Istanbul (2005), Turin (2008), Tokyo (2011). Multiple Laureate of the “Hand of the Master” competition, held by the Union of Architects of Russia, Laureate of the International Competition “Eurasian Prize 2018” – a gold diploma for the project “Multifunctional complex Main Avenue”, implemented in collaboration with the “Workshop of architectural and construction concepts”.
Alexey Kukovyakin is one of those who are obsessed with their profession. “On the one hand, culture, psychology and aesthetics, on the other hand, the quality of architecture depends on the use of technology. An architect does not have to fully understand all these things, but he must clearly understand their relationship. All this set of decisions affects the living, working or entertainment conditions in each case, inside and outside the object, ”says the architect.

Anssi Lassila (b. Soini Finland, 1973) is the founder and director of OOPEAA Office for Peripheral Architecture. His international breakthrough was the Kärsämäki Shingle Church in 2004. Lassila’s architecture displays his interest in combining a sculptural form with traditional materials and innovative techniques. For him, peripheral sensitivity is a vital part of the creative process. OOPEAA draws inspiration from ‘in-between’ states – between urban and rural, traditional and contemporary, local and international. In its approach OOPEAA emphasizes the potential embedded in exploring new methods and techniques as a means of developing new solutions in building. Their work is characterized by a strong interest in the way materials behave and experimentation with innovative solutions. It is about venturing into borderlands and identifying new possibilities where tradition meets the new.

OOPEAA works on a wide range of projects on varying scales from churches and public buildings to housing, office buildings and private houses to town planning, and urban visions as well as renovations and extensions to historically valuable landmarks. The office is based in Seinäjoki and Helsinki, Finland, and it currently employs a staff of 20. OOPEAA has been honored with significant awards and won several prizes in competitions both in Finland and abroad, including the Rice Design Alliance Spotlight Award in 2017, the Finlandia Prize for Architecture in 2015, the Wood Architecture Award in 2015, the Canadian Wood Design and Building Award 2016, and the American Architecture Prize 2016 in two categories. The work of the office has also been selected for the shortlist for the Mies van der Rohe European Prize for Architecture in 2005, 2011 and 2017, and nominated for the 2019 edition of the prize.

Ben is a Principal and a Head of Design at HASSELL. He is responsible for the process and quality of design at HASSELL.
Ben has led the design of significant national and international projects in a wide range of sectors and contexts. His projects span single spaces to master plans for 20,000 people and typologies ranging from residential, to sporting, commercial, cultural and educational. To all of these projects, Ben has focused on connecting people. Prior to joining HASSELL, Ben was the Project Director at Herzog & de Meuron for projects including Tate Modern (the Tanks and the Blavatnik Building), The Blavatnik School of Government, Kolkata Museum of Modern Art and the 2012 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion. At HASSELL Ben has led projects such as The Point, 97 Franklin Street, Tennis HQ and Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation. Ben has delivered lectures at universities across Australia and overseas. He has taught a Master Design Studio at The University of Melbourne and is also an active member on the design review panels at Office of the Victorian Government Architect and Office for Design and Architecture South Australia.

In 2010 the firm was ranked the largest architecture company in Australia and the 25th largest in the world.^[2]

The firm received Australian Institute of Architects national awards for the Sydney Olympic Park railway station (1998), the VS1/SA Water building in Adelaide (2009), ANZ Centre in Melbourne’s Docklands and the railway stations of the Epping to Chatswood railway line (2010).

LARS KRÜCKEBERG, Architect BDA, Founding Partner, CEO

Lars Krückeberg studied architecture at the Technical University Braunschweig, Germany, the Università degli Studi di Firenze, Italy, and the German Institute for History of Art, Firenze, Italy. He graduated as Dipl.-Ing. Arch. in Braunschweig and received his Master of Architecture at the Southern Californian Institute of Architecture SCI Arc, Los Angeles, USA. After visiting professorships at HafenCity University in Hamburg and the RWTH Aachen, Lars Krückeberg has been a visiting professor at the TU Delft in 2017/18. In 1998 Lars Krückeberg established GRAFT in Los Angeles together with Wolfram Putz and Thomas Willemeit. With further offices in Berlin and Beijing, GRAFT has been commissioned to design and manage a wide range of projects. GRAFT has won numerous national and international awards and earned international reputation throughout its existence. In 2009 the GRAFT founding partners co-founded Solarkiosk AG together with Andreas Spiess, which affiliate companies are incorporated in ten countries worldwide today.

With GRAFT Brandlab, Lars Krückeberg, Wolfram Putz, and Thomas Willemeit established a branding agency together with Linda Stannieder in 2014. The agency operates at the interface of architecture, design, and branding.

Since 2015 GRAFT offers sustainable housing systems in modular design in order to quickly construct accommodations for refugees. The company called Heimat2 was founded together with three other companies working in project development and communication.

Lars Krückeberg, Wolfram Putz and Thomas Willemeit together with Marianne Birthler curated the German Pavilion in Venice at the Architecture Biennale 2018.

In 2018, Lars Krückeberg was selected as one of nine scholarship holders of the German Academy Villa Massimo Rome. The scholarship for the stay abroad goes to the elite of German artists and creatives.

Luis Pancorbo is a Spanish architect egressed from ETSA Madrid and licensed since 1996. He focuses his professional practice on the submission of international architectural competitions. Associated with Ines Martin Robles, he has won 17 awards in different competitions and 21 awards for their built work, including 4 COAM Prizes and the recent AZ Awards in Canada, AR awards from the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Chicago Athenaeum Awards, the Faculty Design Award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), and 2018 Architecture MasterPrize. Their work has been published in more than 60 international architectural magazines. This is the research activity to which he devotes most of his time.

His academic research interests focus on the technical dimension of architecture and its influence on the methodology of architectural design, the relationship between the theories of the technical object and the architectural object; American industrial architecture; industrial ruins, and derelict productive landscapes. He has been Associate Professor at the School of Architecture of Madrid, and since 2015, he is Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture of the University of Virginia.

Hermann Kamte is an award-winning Cameroonian Architect. He is the Founding Associates and the Creative Director at HKA | Hermann Kamte & Associates.
In 2016, He started after earned Master’s Degree in Architecture with « Distinction » at the prestigious EAMAU (École Africaine des Métiers de l’Architecture et de l’Urbanisme).
Through a series of award-winning design, Hermann has developed a reputation for designing project that are as programmatically and technically innovative as they are ecofriendly, Marketable, serviceable, affordable, sustainable and ecological conscious.
Hermann has received numerous awards and honors, including the WAFX Prize’s Cultural Identity Prize in 2017 at the World Architecture Festival, the Gold in Architectural Design at the American Prize of Architecture and the The Inaugural Archi. Awards Africa “Premiere” held by African Union of Architects (AUA) in 2018, Eurasian Prize in 2018.
Alongside his architectural practice, Hermann have contributed and have been feature to international press such as “The Architectural Review” “Business Day” and “Financial Times”. He is becoming a frequent public speaker and has spoken in venues such as CTBUH, ARCHITECTURE ZA and LAFARGEHOLCIM FOUNDATION.
Hermann Kamte have been named Forbes Africa “30 Under 30” Creative Category Class of 2019 and among Top 30 “Africa Innovators 2019 by Qurtz”.

Rainer Mahlamäki’s representative designs are a product of his belief in the importance of understanding each commission’s backstory. He strives to understand the people he designs for, the landscape he is altering, and the history he is representing. Whether museums or homes, his designs are rooted in a deep understanding and speak for themselves.

Rainer has been ever-present within Finland’s education and architecture institutions. Currently a Professor – and previously the Dean – of the Oulu School of Architecture, he chaired the Board of the Museum of Finnish Architecture from 2002 to 2006, and was President of SAFA from 2007 to 2011.

Aside from his projects, Rainer frequently acts as a juror for high-profile international architecture competitions. His pioneering international achievements were recognised in 2017 when he was awarded the prestigious Prince Eugen Medal by the King of Sweden.

Rainer founded Lahdelma & Mahlamäki Architects together with Ilmari Lahdelma in 1997. Their architectural collaborations began well before this, with the founding of the architecture collective 8 Studio in 1986, and Kaira-Lahdelma-Mahlamäki Architecture office in 1992.

Kris Yao, Hon. FAIA, founded KRIS YAO | ARTECH in 1985 and established a Shanghai office in 2001. The firm is a one of the most important leading architecture practice in Asia-Pacific region. Throughout his 30 years of practice, Kris has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the College of Environmental Design at the University of California – Berkeley in 2005, the National Award for Arts in Taiwan in 2007, and the prestigious Honorary Fellowship from the American Institute of Architects in 2014.

His portfolio demonstrates years of practice in commercial, hospitality, civic, transportation, spiritual, and educational design. His architecture integrates function with culture and history, presenting a unique approach that celebrates the spirit of the locality. The AIA praised him as an architect whose “architecture has a poetic nature, using his native eastern aesthetic and spirituality with a sense of natural light, interplay of surfaces and forms and executing all with a high level of innovation and professionalism.”

Manuelle Gautrand was born on 14 July 1961 in Marseille (France).

She graduated as an architect in 1985 from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture in Montpellier.

In 1991 she set up her practice; she lives and works in Paris.

As the principal architect at MANUELLE GAUTRAND ARCHITECTURE, she is responsible for the design and construction of a diverse range of buildings, including cultural facilities (theatres, museums, cultural centres), offices, housing, commercial and leisure facilities, etc.

She works for large public clients and institutions as much as for private clients, in France and abroad.

“Re-enchant the city” and thus to bring emotion, to reinvent, to renew, to innovate and to propose the unexpected answers, to be bold and plural are the founding principles of the architecture of ManuelleGautrand.

Kjetil Trædal Thorsen was born in the Norwegian city of Haugesund, and in 1985 he graduated as Dipl. Ing. Architect from the University of Graz, Austria. The same year he was a co-founder of the first Norwegian gallery for architecture, Gallery ROM.

In 1987 he co-founded the multidisciplinary architectural practice, Snøhetta, and he has been a partner in the company since 1989. Since the creation of Snøhetta, Kjetil has been instrumental in the projects developed by the practice such as the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, Egypt; the New National Opera and Ballet in Oslo, Norway; The SFMOMA in San Francisco; the National September 11 Memoria Pavilion in NY; the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dahran, Saudi Arabia; the Lascaux IV Caves in France; and lately the Busan Opera house in Busan.

He is a frequent lecturer internationally, and from 2004 to 2008 he was professor of architecture at the Institute of Experimental Architecture at the University of Innsbruck, Austria.

As founding partner, Kjetil has been instrumental in defining and developing Snøhetta’s philosophy and architectural ambition. Many of the projects created by Snøhetta has been inspired or led by Kjetil.

Lina Malfona is an architect with a Ph.D. in Architectural and Urban Design. She is associate professor at the University of Pisa, where she heads the research lab Polittico (www.polittico.unipi.it). Since 2015, she has been invited as a guest and visiting critic at Cornell AAP, Columbia GSAPP, and Harvard GSD, among others.
Since 2007, she has been involved in drawing exhibitions and architectural competitions as team leader, receiving recognition and acclaim. In 2015, she got the “Premio Giovani” National Award from the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca (Rome) and the prize “RomArchitettura” for a series of 10 case study homes built in the Roman countryside, published on architectural journals such as Abitare, Anfione e Zeto, Architectural Record, Paesaggio Urbano and The Plan. Bringing the long-neglected idea of the single-family home back into play within Italian architectural culture, this work has been recently published as the core of her book Building the Landscape. Residential Pavilions in the Roman Countryside (2018).
She pursued her research thanks to the Visiting Scholarship at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montréal (CCA); the Library Grant from The J. Paul Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles; the Fulbright Grant at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University; the Visiting Fellowship at the ATCH Center at The University of Queensland. As a scholar, she authored more than 100 publications, among which a number of essays and monographs on matters related to the history, theory and criticism of architecture, focusing on the relationship between architectural form and urban space. Her writings have been published through Il Poligrafo, Gangemi, Quodlibet, and in Ananke, Ardeth and The Avery Review among others (www.linamalfona.com).

Kee Jing Zhi is a Singapore Architect and partner of Freight Architects. Freight Architects is an award winning architectural practice that has recently gained reputation in designing childcare and elderly spaces in the region. “Sengkang Large Childcare Centre” has recently won the International Architecture Award 2019 as well the Asia Pacific FuturArc Green Leadership Award 2019.

Prior to setting up Freight Architects, Kee has worked for Wilkinson Eyre Architects, on the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore and numerous high-profile, super high-rise towers and commercial buildings in China.

His most recent projects include Sengkang Large Childcare Centre (2017); Pyrite House (2016); White House Park Villa (2019); and Fernvale Large childcare Centre (2019).

Fernando Romero (Fernando Romero), Mexican architect, founder of the architectural Studio FR-EE.

After graduating from Iberoamericana University, Fernando Romero worked with Jean Nouvel and Rem Koolhaas in Paris and Rotterdam. Then he founded FR-EE in Mexico city in 2000 and then opened an office in New-York.

FR-EE uses research combined with technological advances to create a range of public and private projects, including Museo Soumaya in Mexico city. The projects of the Studio are aimed at solving a wide range of private and public initiatives from urban development and green infrastructure to community formation. Romero recently collaborated with British architect Norman Foster in the development of a new airport in Mexico city, which attempts to become the most sustainable airport in the world.

The architect’s portfolio includes joint projects with such contemporary stars as Rem Koolhas, Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel, Enrico Mirales.

Fernando Romero is the author of several books on the theory of architecture, including «Translation» – about the transition from modernism to the era of Web 2.0, and «Hyperborder» – about the illusory nature of the border between Mexico and the United States. His research has been widely published and he has received many international awards for his work. He also became an honorary fellow of the American Institute of architects (AIA).

Peter Ippolito studied architecture in Stuttgart and Chicago. During this period he was an assistant to Prof. Ben Nicholson (Chicago) and collected valuable practical experience in the studio of Daniel Libeskind (Berlin). He set up Ippolito Fleitz Group together with Gunter Fleitz in 2002. And in 2015 Peter Ippolito and Gunter Fleitz were the first German interior designers to be admitted to Interior Design magazine’s prestigious ›Hall of Fame‹. In addition to his creative work, Peter Ippolito has held various teaching positions and is in keen demand as a speaker and as a member of competition juries. Peter Ippolito is a member of the German Designers Club (Deutscher Designer Club).

Arne Reisegg Myklestad is an architect and urban designer from Norway. He is the CEO of the Oslo based architectural office Dark Arkitekter and a partner in the muliti-diciplinary Dark group, consisting of 125 architects, designers, interior architects and landscape architects.

Arne studied architecture in Copenhagen at the Royal Academy of fine arts, and holds an additional masters degree in architectural theory from London Metropolitan University. He has professional experience from Copenhagen, London and Oslo, and has been at partner at Dark arkitekter since 2015.

During his professional carrier, Arne has worked mostly with large-scale urban developments and with conceptual, early-phase architecture. He has published several articles on the subject, and has experience from student guidance and as a jury member of both design competition and architectural prizes.

Ben van Berkel is a Dutch architect; founder and principal architect of the architectural practice UNStudio. He studied architecture at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and at the Architectural Association in London, receiving the AA Diploma with Honours in 1987.

In 1988 he founded the Van Berkel & Bos Architectuurbureau with the Caroline Bos, extending their theoretical and writing projects to the practice of architecture. In 1998 Ben van Berkel co-founded UNStudio (United Net). He has lectured and taught at many architectural schools around the world. Currently he holds the Kenzo Tange Visiting Professor’s Chair at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. In 2018 he founded UNSense, an Arch Tech company based in Amsterdam that designs and integrates human-centric tech solutions for the built environment.

Among the most well-known projects UNStudio has designed the Erasmus bridge in Rotterdam, the möbius house in Naarden, the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, the building of Singapore University of technology and design, theatre Agora in Lelystad and many others.
In total, the Bureau’s portfolio includes more than 80 completed projects.

Jürgen Mayer H. studied at Stuttgart University, The Cooper Union and at Princeton University. Since 1996 he has been working as an architect. Recent national and international projects include Metropol Parasol, the redevelopment of the Plaza de la Encarnación in Seville, Spain; the Court of Justice in Hasselt, Belgium; Pavilion KA300, built in celebration of Karlsruhe’s 300th jubilee, and several public and infrastructural projects in Georgia—for example, an airport in Mestia, the border checkpoint in Sarpi, and three rest stops along the highway in Gori and Lochini.

His work has been published and exhibited worldwide and is part of numerous collections including Museum of Modern Art(MoMA) New York and MoMA San Francisco and also private collections.

Patrik Schumacher is principal of Zaha Hadid Architects and is leading the firm since Zaha Hadid’s passing in March 2016. He joined Zaha Hadid in 1988 and was seminal in developing Zaha Hadid Architects to become a 400 strong global architecture and design brand.

Patrik Schumacher studied philosophy, mathematics and architecture in Bonn, Stuttgart and London. He received his Diploma in architecture in 1990.  He has been a partner since 2003 and a co-author on all projects. In 2010 Patrik Schumacher won the Royal Institute of British Architects’ Stirling Prize for excellence in architecture together with Zaha Hadid, for MAXXI, the National Italian Museum for Art and Architecture of the 21^st century in Rome. He is an academician of the Berlin Academy of Arts.

In 1996 he founded the Design Research Laboratory at the Architectural Association in London where he continues to teach. In 1999 he completed his PHD at the Institute for Cultural Science, Klagenfurt University. Patrik Schumacher is lecturing worldwide and is currently a guest professor at Harvard’s GSD. Over the last 20 years he has contributed over 100 articles to architectural journals and anthologies. In 2008 he coined the phrase Parametricism and has since published a series of manifestos promoting Parametricism as the new epochal style for the 21^st century. In 2010/2012 he published his two-volume theoretical opus magnum “The Autopoiesis of Architecture”. Patrik Schumacher is widely recognized as one of the most prominent thought leaders within the fields of architecture, urbanism and design.

«The sensitive archeology of its context». The goal is to explore different systems in order to build efficient buildings, while defining a sensitive architecture. In fact, the history and origins are the anchor of today’s architecture. Researching from the site depths to other environment elements such as the landscape, the meteorology, the social habits or traditions can help to design the most suitable project. This research opens a balanced dialogue between architecture and nature.

Manal Rachdi (OXO Architects) win prestigious competition to remake a Parisian neighbourhood – the “Réinventer Paris” (Reinventing Paris) competition for the site of Pershing in Paris with their project “Mille Arbres” (Thousand Trees). The firm are also associated with the team of Sou Fujimoto Architects (based in Tokyo).

Light On White is an international architecture and interior design studio specialising in luxury residential projects for private clients and property developers throughout the world.

Born in Paris, raised in London, Alizee Brion holds a Master of Architecture from Columbia University in New York. Prior to forming Light On White, Alizee honed her design skills working with renowned architecture and interior design firms including Philippe Starck’s office in Paris. Global travel, a love of nature and a passion for art are constant influences in her creative design work.

Alizee’s passion is believing a home is about the individual, and her inspiration comes from listening to people talk about the way they want to live their lives. She has the ability to capture her client’s vision and deliver de-signs that are perfectly function and lastingly beautiful.

Karim Rashid is one of the most unique voices in design today. With more than 4000 designs in production, over 300 awards to his name, and client work in over 40 countries, Karim’s ability to transcend typology continues to make him a force among designers of his generation.

Eschewing style in favor of designing in the modus of our time, Karim’s designs include luxury goods for Christofle, Alessi, Veuve Clicquot, and Riva 1920; democratic products for Umbra, Paul Mitchell, 3M, and Philip Morris; timeless furniture for Bonaldo, Tonelli, BoConcept, and Vondom; exquisite lighting for Artemide and Fontana Arte; high-tech products for Asus and SirinLabs; surface design for Marburg and Abet Laminati; iconic graphics for Citibank and Sony Ericsson; and award- winning packaging for Method, Paris Baguette, Kenzo, and Eos.

Karim’s influence expands beyond product to interiors, including restaurants like Switch in UAE; hospitality design for Park Inn by Radisson Amsterdam City West, Temptation Resort Cancun, and budget hotels for Prizeotel in Bremen, Hamburg, Munster, and Erfurt; public environments like Universita Metro Station in Naples; residential design like Paraiso Bayviews in Miami; and retail design for Fun Factory in Berlin and Munich. Additionally, he has collaborated on innumerable concept exhibitions for clients such as Dupont Corian, Deutsche Bank, PepsiCo, and Audi. In 2017 Karim launched Kreate by Karim, his own line of kitchenware and lifestyle accessories.

Numerous awards and accolades attest to Karim’s contribution to the world of design. He is a perennial winner of the Red Dot award, Chicago Athenaeum Good Design award, Pentawards, and IDSA Industrial Design Excellence award. He holds Honorary Doctorates from Carlton University, Pratt Institute, OCAD in Toronto, British Institute of Interior Design, and Corcoran College of Art & Design
