This settlement is an example of a type of urban interventions carried out until the 70s for the development of fishery on the Atlantic coast of Portugal. Both the monofunctional character and its (mainly social) effects define an urban landscape without cohesion. The main strategic objective of the design was to increase urban density by re-defining the margin. The tools for achieving this objective are the clear definition of the settlement in relation to rural areas, the filling of empty urban lots and the creation of a cohesive system of public spaces.
