The research for the characteristics and strengths of lighting design has led me to draw the object itself. Shape-oriented research has investigated lines and curves emerging from the past, which recall the genesis of things. The drop-like shape breaks up and puts together the materials which it’s made of: wood and glass. Wood is strong and resistant, bearing apparent grain patterns while glass is a very ancient material, profusely used in the lighting world thanks to its main trait, that is to say its capability of letting light through. Glass also recalls water and the simple things.

I wondered, what’s the shape of light? Light has a shape as well, but just like water, it acquires and adapts to that of its container. I drew inspiration from nature, because water is a tremendously precious natural element, just like light. The drop-like shape is a very clean and smooth one, which combines shape and function perfectly, lighting up a space uniformly. It is well known that it’s preferable to use simple shapes when representing things whose exact shape we do not know. The drop lets imagination run free and takes up back to the memory lane, creating an environment rich of positive sensations.

A wooden semi-sphere is the basis for a glazed glass cone. The light employed is an LED light.

Light diffuses smoothly in the environment, ideal at dusk, when watching over the lights of a frantic metropolis in the distance.
