Eurasian Prize 2020 awards were presented in Yekaterinburg
The ceremony of awarding the laureates of the International Competition for Architecture and Design “Eurasian Prize” was held in Yekaterinburg. In the fifteenth, anniversary, season of the competition, more than 450 projects from 22 countries competed for the title of the best. Among the laureates there are representatives of 17 cities of Russia and 19 states. The ceremony took place during the ARCHEURASIA Open Summit of Architects, Urbanists and Designers.
According to Galina Bukova, Director of the Eurasian Prize Competition, this season the selection of entries has been stricter than ever: “This year, an incredible jury has been formed – it includes the founders and leaders of the most famous architectural firms from 16 countries: the head of the ZAHA architectural bureau HADID ARCHITECTS Patrick Schumacher (UK), industrial design legend, head of Kurv Architecture Karim Rashid (USA), professor, founder and director of UNStudio Ben van Berkel (Netherlands), founder and director of J. MAYER H. und Partner Jürgen Mayer (Germany) and many other stars of world architecture and design. Therefore, the requirements for the projects were extremely high. ”
Participants from different cities came to the awards ceremony in Yekaterinburg: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Perm, Saratov, Kaliningrad, Rostov-on-Don, Minsk. For objective reasons, foreign laureates and members of the international jury were unable to attend the ceremony, however, on their behalf, the consuls and ambassadors of Great Britain, Italy, France and other countries participating in the international competition presented and received awards – statuettes and diplomas.
The Eurasian Prize is a competition aimed at identifying the best projects of architects, urban planners and designers. But identifying talent is only part of the Eurasian Prize’s mission. Modern challenges – unmanaged urbanization, poverty, isolation, social adaptation, climate change and ecology – inevitably raise questions for the architectural and design community about how architecture can be used not only to transform space, but also to transform society. Many works of the laureates confirm that architecture really solves acute social issues, ”says Galina Bukova .
The works of the winners are published in the catalog Winners Book 2020
